James King Jr. began working for his father (James King Sr., founder of Dekalb Pipeline Company) in May of 1983 as a General Laborer. Over the next two years, James filled roles of Pipelayer, Operator and eventually Foreman, leading his own crew. In November of 1985 he took over the day-to-day operations of the company while his father was out with surgery. In 1987 he was named President, and in 1999 assumed the role of CEO as well. Under King's leadership, Dekalb gained a reputation as one of Georgia’s premier subdivision sitework contractors.

King became a part of trade associations as a way to give back to the industry in the early 90’s, and served on numerous committees and task force before rising to hold the office of President in both the state chapter (Georgia) and eventually the national parent association of the Utility Contractors Association..

Over the past 29 years, King has overseen and completed major projects ranging from master planned subdivisions, commercial site development, schools, as well as public bonded utility work.

Being a man of strong faith, James has felt like he was called to this line of work by God. It is his mission field. He also feels that it is his responsibility to treat the company as a tool of God to minister to others.
